Jazz, Tap, Modern

Melanie Askin is originally from Maryland and began dancing under the direction of her role model, Diane Hamilton, at the Musical Theater Center. She was a part of the performing groups called Upbeat Unlimited and Young Americans of Washington in the DC area. She performed on the televised 4th of July Celebration with Barry Bostwick and with Clay Aiken at his winter concert in Baltimore. Summers were spent studying with Broadway Dance Alliance in New York.

Melanie graduated cum laude from East Carolina University with a BFA degree in Dance Performance. She became very involved in the dance department and performed all four years in the faculty performances. She studied with many guest artists including David Dorfman, Lane Alexander, Barbara Duffy, and Doug Varone. Her favorite summer was spent at Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, Maine. She studied with some of the best dancers in the world, and it changed her life.

After graduating, Melanie danced professionally with SeaWorld and Parks at Busch Gardens Theme Park in Williamsburg, VA.

A new resident of Raleigh, Melanie is excited to become a part of the NCDI family and to share her knowledge and passion of dance with us. Welcome, Melanie!
