In addition to classes in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and hip-hop, North Carolina Dance Institute offers a variety of summer performance workshops, intensives, and dance camps for children and teens of all levels.

Registration began March 1. Camp costs are shown for each camp and the annual NCDI $20 registration fee may apply. Family and multi-camp discounts are available. Refunds can be issued up to 2 weeks prior to the start of any camp, intensive, or summer session classes. Simply register online and mail the payment to confirm your enrollment. Our summer camps fill quickly – register early to reserve your spot!

Summer Jazz Intensives

The Summer Jazz Intensives are scaled down versions of the popular Summer Showcase. These one week intensive dance camps feature high-energy jazz choreography that culminate with an in-house studio performance. The Summer Jazz Intensives will be led by Artistic Director Kirstie Spadie and NCDI faculty. It is a great performance opportunity for NCDI dancers and open to other dancers in our community. Dancers must be at an intermediate to advanced level, and acceptance is subject to approval.

Jazz Intensives I & II
Intensive I Time: June 18-22 (Mon-Fri) 9:00am-12:30pm
    Ages: 9-12 yrs
    Instructor: Kirstie Spadie & Sarah Putterman
    Performance: Friday, June 22, 6:00pm at NCDI

Intensive II Time: June 25-29 (Mon-Fri) 12:30pm-4:00pm
    Ages: 13-17 yrs
    Instructor: Kirstie Spadie & Sarah Putterman
    Performance: Friday, June 29, 6:00pm at NCDI

Level: Intermediate/Advanced (subject to approval)
   Non-NCDI students are required to take a placement class during spring semester.

Contemporary Dance Intensive

The Contemporary Dance Intensive is a dance workshop featuring modern and contemporary styles for intermediate to advance dancers. NCDI faculty and guest teachers bring together cutting edge choreography and technique.

Jazz Boot Camp

Spend a week with NCDI Artistic Director Kirstie Spadie and Sarah Putterman exploring jazz choreography in a fast-paced and fun dance intensive for beginner and intermediate dancers. Attire: Black leotard, jazz pants, black jazz shoes.

Students often take the Ballet Basics Boot Camp followed by the Jazz Boot Camp.

Summer Ballet Intensives

Ballet intensives are for the beginner to the serious-minded ballet student and strive to develop the complete dancer. NCDI encourages all students who wish to be in higher placement classes for the fall semester to participate in a ballet intensive.

Young Dancers Ballet Intensive

The Young Dancers Ballet Intensive is for the serious young dancer. Choreography from Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake will be set during this fun week of intermediate level technique and choreography with NCDI ballet instructor Ms. Melissa. Classical ballet attire is required (black leotard/pink tights), with hair worn in a bun. Please bring a healthy snack.

Level: Intermediate (2-3 yrs ballet experience required)
   Non-NCDI students are required to take

Children's Ballet Intensive

This fun ballet camp for children 6 to 9 years old will cover ballet fundamentals and stagecraft exploration with stage make-up and costumes. Degas and the Little Dancers, an original ballet for children, will be presented in an exciting showcase for parents at NCDI on Friday at 11:30am. Black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers are required. Bring a healthy snack. Costumes will be provided by NCDI. These camps sell out quickly. Ballet Basics Boot Camp

The Ballet Basics Boot Camp is a fast-paced introduction of ballet fundamentals and conditioning for the body. A fun format led by Ms. Melissa will give students boot camp exercises to practice throughout the summer. This camp is designed for the student who has an interest in ballet and wants to further their knowledge in an accelerated week of ballet fundamentals. Classical ballet attire is required (black leotard/pink tights). Bring a healthy snack.

Students often take the Ballet Basics Boot Camp followed by the Jazz Boot Camp.

Pre-Pointe Primer

Students recommended for Pre-Pointe classes for Fall 2012 should participate in the Pre-Pointe Primer. Pointe shoes should be purchased, fitted, and sewn prior to the primer. Please e-mail Kirstie for placement questions.

Broadway Bound Workshop

NCDI alumna Emily Nicolau (photo by Rick McCullough) Broadway bound? You need training in singing, acting and dancing! Sarah Putterman leads a packed workshop of the “Triple Threat” techniques. Learn Broadway dance numbers from Hairspray, Chicago and Fame. Informational seminars on getting a talent agent, headshots, resumes, and vocal training.

The Broadway Bound Workshop includes learning two monologues, an audition song and upbeat choreography. Learn what it takes to make it in show business!

Ballerina Princess Dance Camp

NCDI students (photo by Ken Wolf)North Carolina Dance Institute offers an imaginative and creative arts camp for children 3 to 5 years old. Children will dance along with their favorite fairy tales and create dance-related artistic crafts. Each fun-filled day will consist of a 45-minute dance class, snack break, followed by the completion of their very own artwork. All craft materials, costumes and snacks are supplied by NCDI. Pink leotards, skirts, tights, and leather ballet slippers are required for Creative Arts Dance Camp. This is an inspiring summer camp experience for the budding young artist who loves to dance!

Gotta Dance! Camp

This fun dance camp for children 5 to 7 years old will explore upbeat tap, jazz and ballet dances. Black or pink leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers and tap shoes are required.
